Trinty 5

Trinity 5

Morning everyone,

Just a quick message with the link below for a service today from the Lanercost benefice. I'm at the end of a week off (back tomorrow) so no offerings from me online today. But it was lovely to be in church for services last Sunday at Talkin and Farlam.

Take care,

Edward

Patronal Festival

Patronal Festival

Dear Everyone,

Today public worship is held again in our benefice! Services are taking place at Talkin at 9.15am, Farlam at 10.30am and Irthington at 6.30pm.

In our morning services we're marking the feast day of St Thomas a Becket (7th July is the 850th anniversary of the translation of his relics to Canterbury Cathedral). If it hadn't been for Covid-19 several of us from Farlam parish would have been celebrating the day with hundreds of others from churches dedicated to Thomas a Becket at a big service at Canterbury Cathedral - a Canterbury pilgrimage all of our own! Sadly not to be...

But it will be lovely to hold services again. We are going to have a go at recording some of the service in Farlam Church and then I'll post it online at midday today for those at home.

The link for Lanercost Benefice's Sunday service of Morning Worship for Trinity 4 (5th July) is below. The service has been prepared by Jo Grundy and she leads the service with Elaine Nightingale and her husband, John Grundy, reading the Bible passages.  Read More…

Public worship changes

Public Worship in July

I am just getting in touch to let you know where things stand with regard to local public worship in July.

You're probably aware that last week it was announced by the govt that services can take place from this weekend. Great news! But responding to this has been difficult with further clarification coming out piecemeal. Yesterday the govt published comprehensive advice about what measures must be in place for a church service to happen. The Church Times have summarised this usefully, but the official further guidance from the CofE was to come out today and hasn't yet. Bishop James should be issuing local guidance, presumably tomorrow, and it's worth remembering his guidance on churches opening for private prayer was more stringent than that put out nationally.

However, we need to decide asap what we can sensibly commit to. I have consulted with churchwardens and the plan I'm putting out is as follows:

5th July: 9.15am Talkin (EJ) ; 10.30am Farlam (EJ)

12th July: 9.15am Talkin (Lay led) ; 10.30am Castle Carrock (Peter Ramsden)

19th July: 9.15am Talkin (Lay led) ; 10.30am Hayton (EJ)

26th July: 10.30am Talkin (EJ)

The above rota is partly the way it is so that the Patronal Festivals at Farlam, Hayton and Talkin can all be observed in July. Cumwhitton and Cumrew have theirs in August. It also seems sensible to use the bigger buildings initially.  Read More…

28th June

Sunday 28th June

Good morning everyone,

Here is a talk given in St Peter's Castle Carrock, in which I reflect on a stained glass window in the parish church (St John and the poisoned chalice). A huge thank you to the Brampton Chamber Choir (which includes Helen, one our Castle Carrock churchwardens) for offering us the beautiful Thomas Tallis motet which comes after the talk. The words sung are a quotation from the Gospel according to John 14: 15 - 17.

If ye love me
Keep my commandments
And I will pray the Father
And he shall give you another comforter
That he may bide with you forever
E'en the spirit of truth
